An MRI is another type of non-invasive medical test which uses a strong magnetic field, radio waves and a computer to produce detailed images of soft tissue, bone, fat, ligaments, tendons, muscles and internal organs of your body. Dr Emery will use this imaging to evaluate your nerves and discs.
The scan will take between 15 minutes and 1 hour depending on the area of your body being examined.
It is important to advise Dr Emery and the Radiographer if you have;
- A pacemaker, cerebral aneurysm clips of a surgically implanted medical device or implant;
- If it is possible that you are pregnant;
- If you have a history of working with metal; or
- If you have ever had an allergic reaction to an MRI contrast.
If you are claustrophobic, please inform the receptionist you speak to when booking your appointment, as sedation can be organised.
Most MRI’s attract a Medicare rebate if referred by a specialist, however a gap fee may apply. Please speak with the receptionist at the practice for more information on costs associated with your MRI.
