What should I bring to my appointment?
It is important that you bring any relevant information pertaining to your medical history such as current medication, allergies and medical problems, with you to your appointment. Please also bring any relevant x-rays or scans to your initial and any subsequent appointments.
Why do I have to fill out paper work before I get an appointment?
Dr Emery and his medical team need to get the full understanding of each patient’s medical condition, in order to prioritise urgent or serious problems and to those patients needing surgery.
Why is there sometimes a long wait for appointments?
As Dr Emery is a surgeon, he spends most of his time in the operating theatre. Dr Emery only consults in Townsville twice a week Tuesday and Wednesday. Dr Emery also spends three days a month in Cairns.
What if the wait for the allocated appointment is too long?
If you feel that your condition warrants a more urgent appointment you can discuss this with your referring Doctor who can contact us and provide us with more details of your condition.
How much does it cost to see Dr Emery?
Initial Consultation
Your initial consultation requires an extended period of time and therefore a higher fee is charged. Payment is expected on the day of your consultation. You may pay by cash, cheque, EFTPOS or credit card (Mastercard or Visa). Once your account is finalised, you can proceed to Medicare to claim your Federal Government Rebate of approximately $70.
If you are visiting us as part of a third party claim (i.e. work cover, Medico-legal or DVA), please provide us with the claim number and information prior to your consultation. If the account is to be paid by a third party other than DVA or Workcover, written authorisation is to be provided at the time of consultation.
Subsequent Consultations
You may need to return for a subsequent consultation for review of investigations, test results or monitoring of your condition. These appointments attract a lower fee as less time is usually needed. Once your account is finalised, you can proceed to Medicare to claim your Federal Government Rebate of approximately $35.
How long is my referral valid for?
Referrals from General Practitioners are valid for 12 months from the date of your initial consultation, whilst referral from Specialists are only valid for 3 months.
